IT'S HAPPENING

We did it, the stuff is in for my project and I've made progress! Can you believe it? Anyway yes, I'm very happy that my materials came in. One of the things that I ordered is the minky fabric to make up the plushie and it actually came with a lot more than I thought it would. I think I ordered it by the yard and I ordered like 2 yards but the width of the fabric itself was also like a yard and a half long so I have lots of extra minky.

Because of time constraints and the difficulty of acquiring materials right now I have decided to change my piece. I've removed the electronic pieces and my other partners have done the same so we are sticking to the basic design of our creatures. In replacement of the red glowing light I was going to add to my piece I decided to just use red string to do the stitching so I could still give it some subtle color. I also made the overall size a bit bigger so that I could again make up for some of the missing elements.

I have some process photos from while I was working on it. The pictures are a little bit weird since the only good places for me to take the pictures are on my bed and the carpet.

These first two photos are before I stuffed the pieces I had sewn together the first picture is of the front and the second is of the back.

The next three photos are of my piece partially stuffed with the top and bottom still open. At this stage I realized that the shape was a bit wonky so I ended up taking the stuffing out, turning it inside out, re-stuffing it that way, and restitching the seams so that they were shaped a bit curvier, rather than being so sharp. My partner Scout had a similar problem with her piece and instead decided to work off of the shape the she accidentally created.

In these two photos you can see that the edges were sort of sharp and there was lots of wrinkling in the places that the edges stuck out too much

In my final photos you can see that the shape rounded out more and I sew the bottom and top shut. While I was figuring out how to sew the bottom I realized I could make it so that some of the extra fabric around the opening could be used to make some pockets that you can stick your hands in for some added comfort.

In the end I really liked the way the body turned out. The shape is perfect for hugging and is very soft.

An artist I've been interested in lately is, Refik Anadol and he uses A.I. to create art is these huge moving murals or holograms. This website has a cool video about him and his art in it, it's pretty cool you should check it out. I particularly like his melting memories series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y865Nxa5sW4.
