We did it bois. My project is done, this is my last post for My Little Monster. And that is the title, it is now dubbed, My Little Monster. Not gonna lie, at the beginning of this adventure, things were looking bleak, and to be honest they still are. In the end I am glad that I was able to pull through and create the piece I had in mind from the beginning. Of course there are many tweaks to the original idea, changes that had to be made due to our circumstances. In the end I believe it still embodies the comfy attention loving creature that I wanted to create all along.
I still find it so ironic that the purpose of this piece was to be interactive and to express affection with the audience. Now because of Corona virus it can not serve it's original purpose. Though, I do feel that in some ways it's purpose has been enhanced. Now more than ever people miss the interaction and the closeness of others. My Little monster is meant to be that feeling embodied, the longing for affection. To put that feeling in the viewer I made the creature appealing with an innocent white body to represent the pureness of the action of affection. The form is curved to best support your arms and body with just the right size for you to rest your head atop the soft fabric. It also has arms that encircle your own to return the affection. While the the look of the piece is possibly not the most appealing the comfort levels are off the charts.
Here is my pride and joy.

I am really happy with how the arms turned out. At first I was scared that sewing them on would be difficult but it turned out to be relatively easy.
So this piece was indeed meant to be a group project. Of course that didn't really pan out and we lost two of our members who chose to create separate art pieces. My partner Scout and I were the only two left and throughout the project we have face-timed each other to work and talk about our pieces. This way I got a lot of feedback throughout the process of making My Little Monster. She helped me through lots of the sewing because I've only had a small bit of experience.
Of course I still ran into many problems such as in the beginning when I had to restitch the body a bit because the shape was off. I also attempted to embroider the facial features but I found out that I am horrible at it so I decided to just stitch on features. I ended up liking it a lot so that's a win for me.
As for inspiration the artist for this last project post is Pauline Vob. She also goes by Skadivore as her artist name.

I have followed her for a while and I especially like the luminosity that she puts in her art. She often puts dark and pastel colors together and I find it really awesome.
So all that being said this is a wrap on my senior year. It has been a wild ride and it only seems to be getting wilder. I do think this was a learning experience for me and my fellow students and everyone else in the world. We've all had to adapt to the forever changing world and I did the same with this project. Graduating will be strange, going out into this new world, so I hope the best for everyone out there. Hope you are safe and healthy. Congratulation class of 2020!

I love how he came out! This was really cool getting to work with you on this! I'm so sad that I can't hug him... The seams and face look great. Awesome job Zoe!
Oh my god I freaking love this little dude. It's so stupid (in the good way) and cute and I just wanna punch it. From what I can see in the pictures, the stitching work looks clean and the pattern you created came together very nicely. The only problem I can see is what seems to be loose fabric on the back of the doll but it doesn't really take away from the special experience that this doll provides.
